2011 Summer Library

Summer hours for families at the Verda James Library are Wednesdays, June 8-August 3, 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. Please join us for games, prizes, books, videos, blogging, and more! Below are some GREAT reasons to visit the library this summer!

Paperback book exchange for parents – bring a book/take a book!

Keep on track with summer reading – students who read and listen to books and stories throughout the summer and discuss their reading with adults (see blogging entry below) start the following school year with a big advantage over those students who don’t regularly experience books, reading, and discussion.

Grand prizes this summer include a Nintendo DSi (and 2 games) and a backpack loaded with books and school supplies. Register each time you visit the library this summer. Drawing held in September, 2011.

Join our online book club blog. Share and discuss your reading and ideas with friends, family, and teachers. More details to come…

And (if you need additional reasons to visit the library this summer)…

Did you know? Studies done by Publishers’ Weekly confirm that friends and family, especially moms, are the biggest influence on the reading choices of 0-12 year olds.

Study results also confirm that school libraries are the places where most children get books for leisure reading and their primary choice criteria are familiarity with characters or series, parents’ favorite authors, and titles recommended by friends.
